Validated by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), this programme is essential for any candidate who wishes to become an appointed person for first aid and gain a basic knowledge of first aid and what to do in the event of an emergency.

Overview

This course will cover:

• Health & Safety regulations
• Being a first aider
• Assessment of the first aid situation
• Summoning the emergency services
• CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
• Top to toe survey
• Recovery position
• Respiratory disorders
• Unconsciousness casualty
• The circulatory system
• Wounds and bleeding
• Bone joint and muscle injuries
• Use of slings
• Burns and scalds
• First aid box content.

Please note that from 1st October 2009 the HSE will re-name this qualification to Emergency First Aid at Work.  The content of the course will not be changed.

Assessment

Continuous assessment by the trainer throughout the course.
