Imperial Success For Local Employees

19th November 2009

Bodyshop staff at a Derby company that customises vehicles for the armed forces and public sector have completed a training programme with Corporate College, the dedicated business arm of Derby College.

Fifteen staff at Imperial Commercials in Mackworth have successfully completed Business Improvement Techniques training and were recently presented with their certificates by the company’s Regional Director Matthew Lawrenson.

Imperial Commercials Bodyshop Manager Bob Summerfield explained: “The training was provided across the board from shop floor to management and is part of our quality improvement initiative.

“The team here handle the manufacture and repairs of vehicles that are specially adapted for the military, councils, police and fire service and is therefore specialised work that requires a high skills level.

“It is vital that we get the job done right first time so training such as this is an important way of enabling us all to update our skills and to achieve that goal.

Corporate College Business Development Director April Hayhurst continued: “Imperial Commercials are among the thousands of businesses who have recognised that training is a vital aspect of their business plan – ensuring that their staff have the skills to be effective and efficient in the workplace.

“We have an excellent track record in successfully delivering a wide range of work-based qualifications with our staff providing on-site support to minimise the employer’s downtime and to fit in with shift patterns and work rotas to provide one to one support for staff.”

Among the employees who have completed the training is Team Leader Scott Dunnicliffe, who said: “It is always hard to change people’s opinions on how they should do their job so it has been good to take an impartial look at best practice and how we can apply the theory to improving the way we specifically do things here.”
